San Diego Hydrogeology

Welcome to the United States Geological Survey (USGS) San Diego Hydrogeology project website, which provides geologic and hydrologic information for the transboundary San Diego–Tijuana area, USA and Mexico. This website provides background information about the project; a variety of news items; a large amount of data, in particular for USGS multiple-depth, monitoring-well sites; geologic and hydrologic models; and additional resources including photos, illustrations, and references. Last updated: April 2016

Some additional data may be available from the USGS database National Water Information System (NWIS).

About Us

We are a dedicated group of scientists who take pride in deciphering the largely unresearched geology and hydrology of the San Diego–Tijuana area of southern California, USA, and Northern Baja, Mexico. We collect and interpret high quality data, test our ideas with a variety of numerical models, and work closely with local water agencies. We are providing the necessary understanding to develop additional water resources, in particular groundwater from the San Diego Formation and related alluvial deposits.

  1. Letter of interest -- we want to know why you want to volunteer or work for the USGS, and the San Diego Hydrogeology project in particular;
  2. Unofficial college or high school transcripts -- we are interested in your complete academic record; and
  3. Resume -- we are interested in learning about you professionally, academically, and personally.
