Site Description for Otay Trolley (18S/2W-22E3-7)

LOCATION.--Lat 32°35'27.58", long 117°05'00.65" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in SW 1/4 SW 1/4 NW 1/4 sec.22, T.18 S., R.2 W., San Diego County, CA, Hydrologic Unit is unknown,

ROAD LOG.--Start at: 12110 Tech Center Dr Poway, CA 92064

1. Head north on Tech Center Dr toward Gregg St - 0.2 mi

2. Take the 2nd left onto Scripps Poway Pkwy - 4.4 mi

3. Continue onto Mercy Rd - 0.1 mi

4. Turn left to merge onto I-15 S - 11.2 mi

5. Continue onto CA-15 S - 5.9 mi

6. Take exit 1C to merge onto I-5 S toward National City/Chula Vista -7.3 mi

7. Take exit 5B for Main St - 0.3 mi

8. Turn left at Main St - 0.6 mi

9. Take the 3rd right onto Jacqua St - 0.1 mi

10. Turn right at Faivre St - 0.1 mi

Sign in inside the office of the lumber company. The rear access gate has a combination lock and the code is 2640.

ESTABLISHMENT AND HISTORY.--This cluster well site was established as a continuous monitoring site by the U.S. Geological Survey in August 2008.

GAGE.--Instrumentation consists of a Design Analysis H500XL data logger transmitting through a Design Analysis SE-300 GOES HDR transmitter (DCP), five Insitu model Level Troll 500 non-vented pressure transducers, and one Insitu model Baro Troll 500 barometer. A rechargeable 12-volt battery provides power. There is no solar panel at this site, so batteries must be checked and changed when necessary. Instruments are housed in a subterranean concrete and steel vault (with a USGS 2640 lock).

Altitude of gage is 23.63 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988.

ACCURACY.--Records are rated good to excellent, provided the sensor/cable assemblies do not slip or are not damaged/disturbed during measuring/sampling activities in the vault.

COOPERATION.--The station is operated under cooperative agreement with the Sweetwater Authority.

MEASURING POINT.--The current MPs for all wells is the top of the 2-inch PVC casing. The MP elevations for each well are as follows:

All wells are located in a main vault, and each well is identified (casing and cap) by number.

WATER LEVEL RECORD.--This cluster well site was established as a continuous monitoring site by the U.S. Geological Survey in August 2008. The 2009 Water Year record is complete and usable for all wells in this cluster except for the following periods:

For all wells in the cluster, Jan 7-12, July 2, Aug. 5, and Sep. 7-23. In addition, well #3 was missing June 9, 11-15, 18-20 and 25-26. Missing days were attributed to probable probe malfunctions.

WATER LEVEL CORRECTIONS.--Corrections to recorded water levels were applied throughout the year. Ten manual water level measurements were made during WY 2009. These benchmark measurements, generally made monthly, provided a reference water level for correcting recorded data. Generally, corrections were prorated from measurement to measurement, except where noted.

The variations in corrections from measurement to measurement may be due to (1) frequent and rapid fluctuations in water level during manual measurements of water level (observed by the technician), and (2) movement of the cable/sensor assembly during measurements and inspections. Final daily values are reported as depth below land surface datum (ft), daily instantaneous observation at 1200 hrs (statistical code 31200).

ROAD LOG: Key intersection is the intersection of Interstate Highway 5 and Highway 163 about 1 miles from downtown San Diego. Directions are given from Interstate Highway 5 South towards National City.
