Aquatic Ecology

Ecological studies include descriptions of fish, benthic invertebrate and algal communities and stream habitats. The results of the ecological studies are combined with the physical and chemical data to provide an integrated assessment of water quality within selected environmental settings. Four ecology sites have been selected: 3 in the Inland Santa Ana Basin, and 1 in the Coastal Santa Ana Basin. Of the 4 sites, 2 are located at upland sites and 2 are in the alluvial-filled valleys and coastal plain.

Location of Ecological Assessment Sites

For more information on each Santa Ana Basin site, see below.  For information and results on other ecology sites nationwide, browse the National Ecology or the National Analysis of Trace Elements websites.

Two sites, Upper Power House (2) and Prado Dam (4) are trend sites and are sampled every year.
