Texture Model
The 3-D texture model for CVHM2 is an udpated version of CVHM1. Like the first version, the 3D texture model version 2 of the Central Valley Hydrologic Model (CVHM2) shows substantial heterogeneity and systematic variation in the texture of the sediments. The original database contained approximately 8,500 boreholes and with the addition of new data, the model now contains 14,683 boreholes. The updated 3D texture model was created for the basin-fill deposits of the valley by interpolating the percentage of coarse-grained deposits onto a 1-mile spatial grid at 50-foot depth intervals from land surface to 2,800 feet below land surface.
This map allows for the interactive exploration of the percent coarse for each of the 12 model layers in CVHM2. Select a layer from the menu on the right side of the map to display the percent coarse-grained materials from the geological framework (Marcelli and others, 2022). Layer 1 closest to the land surface, and layer 12 is the deepest. For the elevations and thickness of each layer, refer to the documentation. The legend can be collapsed or expanded on the left side of the map, showing values with low percent coarse in cool and high percent coarse in warm colors, from 0-100 percent.
