California's Central Valley

Central Valley Spatial Database

Six major classes of raw source data were collected and/or compiled as part of the Central Valley Hydrologic Model project:

  • borehole lithologic data for aquifer sediment characterization
  • hydrologic data consisting of precipitation records, historical water levels in wells, and streamflows
  • compaction data related to subsidence
  • water-use data from previous studies
  • spatial land-use data, including crop type
  • surface-water deliveries and diversions

A diagram of the data types and specific raw datasets can be found below. Individual datasets can be downloaded by clicking on its title.

The raw datasets were then processed and resampled to the one square mile grid for the Central Valley Hydrologic Model.
