ANALYTICAL METHODS: Pesticides - Sediments

Multi-residue Method for the Analysis of 85 Current-use and Legacy Pesticides in Bed and Suspended Sediments

Smalling, K.L. and Kuivila, K.M., 2008, J. Chromatography A, v. 1210, no. 1, p. 8-18.

A multi-residue method was developed for the simultaneous determination of 85 current-use and legacy organochlorine pesticides in a single sediment sample.  Dry sediment was extracted two times with DCM:acetone (50:50 v/v) using microwave-assisted extraction.  After gel permeation chromatography, the extract was split in half and subjected to two different clean-up methods (carbon/alumina SPE or Florisil) and analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Method detection limits ranged from 0.6 to 8.9µg/kg dry weight.
