Three boat reconnaissance surveys were made of the 60 miles of San Joaquin River in this study:
The first survey included the continuous collection of data on location (gps), CDOM, temperature, EC, DO, and pH. In addition, about 85 water quality samples were collected from the river and tributaries during the survey. The second survey included the same elements as the first survey plus the addition of continuous nitrate measurements using an in situ ultraviolet spectrophotometer (ISUS). Also, the flows and water quality in the river during the second survey were significantly impacted by the constant release of about 200 cfs of relatively clean water from the Delta Mendota Canal of the CVP. This release was made into the Newman Wasteway (just upstream of the Merced River) to improve flows and water quality in the river through the USBR/DWR DMC Recirculation Study. The third survey only collected continuous data on location, temperature, EC, DO, and pH. |
