Well Locations of the Urban Land-Use Ground-Water Study

Nineteen shallow observation wells were drilled and sampled in the Sacramento metropolitan area. The selected locations were within areas developed between 5 and 25 years ago. In this way, the effects of recent urbanization on the quality of shallow ground water could be assessed. Groundwater was sampled and analyzed for a variety of constituents including major element chemistry, volatile organic chemicals, pesticides, and trace elements. In addition, the water was sampled for stable isotopes and age dating measurements were completed.
