Well Locations of the Rice Land-Use Ground-Water Study

Thirty shallow observation wells were drilled and 28 were sampled in the rice growing region of the Sacramento Valley. The locations for well drilling were selected by a randomized process after the locations of all rice fields were known. The rice land use wells were sampled for major elements, nutrients, trace elements, stable isotopes, and pesticides. All wells were sampled for tritium so that relative age dates could be assigned to the water.
