Pupfish Re-introduced in Owens Valley, CA

Native Americans from the Pauite tribe, officials from the Bureau of Reclamation, and U.S. Geological Survey’s Anne Castle and Wes Danskin, will participate in ceremonies to re-introduce Pupfish to the Fish Slough area of Owens Valley, CA, on Tuesday, May 1. Danskin completed extensive hydrogeological work in the Owens Valley during the 1980-90s to evaluate the Owens Valley hydrologic system and identify the effects that groundwater pumping had on native vegetation. The study also evaluated alternative water management strategies to mitigate adverse effects caused by groundwater pumping.
