Past Events and ConferencesHow to expand, improve USGS Cooperative Water ProgramMembers of the water community are invited to a first-ever California workshop to assess and provide input on the U.S. Geological Survey's Cooperative Water Program (CWP). The California CWP Cooperators Roundtable, planned for May 7 as a pre-meeting to the ACWA Spring Conference, will bring local, state and federal officials, water leaders and other stakeholders together with USGS representatives to discuss water-data and science programs in California. The USGS works with more than 100 non-federal cooperators (water agencies and others) in California. These partners contribute almost $18 million annually to support stream-gaging and water-science research carried out by the USGS. The goals of the Cooperators Roundtable are to hear from California cooperators and generate ideas for improving and extending these USGS programs. Besides top USGS officials, planned speakers include Joe Grindstaff, director, California Bay-Delta Authority; Dennis Bostad, general manager of the Sweetwater Authority, and Ted Johnson, chief hydrologist, Water Replenishment District of Southern California. The meeting will be on Monday, May 7 at the Sacramento Hyatt Regency Hotel. It has been planned and organized by a national organization, the Interstate Council on Water Policy (ICWP), with input from USGS staff Space is limited to about 150 participants and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration for this 1-day session is $85, payable at the door, and includes luncheon, a poster session, and a post-workshop buffet and reception.
